Frank Manale turned a corner grocery at Napoleon Avenue and Dryades Street into Manale's Restaurant in 1913.

Why it matters

In 1913 Frank Manale bought a corner grocery at Napoleon Avenue and Dryades Street and turned it into Manale's Restaurant. After his death, Pascal Radosta took over in 1937, and the restaurant took his name. In the mid-1950s Radosta tried to recreate a dish a customer had eaten in Chicago. The result, a peppery butter sauce over shrimp, became New Orleans barbecue shrimp.

The DeFelice family ran it for four generations. In 2019 they sold it to Jessica and Ray Brandt, and in 2023 it joined Dickie Brennan & Co. along with Steve Pettus.
