The family says the business was "founded around 1918" by Peter and Sophie Domilise as a neighborhood bar; Where Y'at and Tasting Table give 1918. We haven't found a record from the time.
Why it matters
Peter and Sophie Domilise founded the business as a neighborhood bar, around 1918 by the family's account. Sophie later cooked plate lunches for longshoremen. After World War II their son Sam and his wife Dorothy, known as Miss Dot, took over. Miss Dot worked there until her death in 2013.
Her daughter-in-law Patti also worked at the shop. The third and fourth generations run it now. The po-boys are made on Leidenheimer bread.
