Opened in 1856 at 811 Decatur Street. Moved to 823 Decatur in 1914 and to 429 Decatur in 2020.

Why it matters

Guillaume and Marie Abadie Tujague opened the restaurant in 1856 at 811 Decatur Street, after Guillaume had worked as a butcher in the French Market. In 1914 it moved to 823 Decatur, the former Begue's location, where it stayed for more than a century.

Steven and Stanford Latter took over in 1982, and Mark and Candace Latter have run it since 2013. As the lease neared its end, the restaurant moved four blocks to 429 Decatur Street. The last dinner at 823 was in June 2020, and it reopened at the new address on December 28, 2020.

Tujague's calls itself the second-oldest restaurant in New Orleans. The grasshopper cocktail is believed to have been invented there.
