Why it matters

Luigi D'Auria opened Regina on Thacher Street in 1926. It is widely described as Boston's oldest pizzeria and appears to be the oldest Italian restaurant still operating in the North End. The Polcari family bought it in the mid-20th century and later expanded Regina into a local chain.

Accounts of the original room say it has kept its character. The booths keep their original layout, and the menu is almost all pizza.
