Why it matters

Pinocchio's opened on Winthrop Street in Harvard Square in 1966. Its original owner, known in the sources only as Luciano, sold it in 1983 to the DiCenso family. Adam DiCenso, who worked there part-time in high school and college, joined full-time in 1992 and runs it today.

The shop has outlasted neighbors such as the Tasty and the Wursthaus through the Read Block redevelopment. Square Sicilian slices make up about 90% of its pizza sales, and subs account for 20 to 25% of the business. Its customers are mostly Harvard students.
